Porto Recanati (1,4 km):A few steps from the city center, the beach of Porto Recanati is the ideal place for sea lovers, with equipped beach establishments that extend from the pine forest to the center of the city. The promenade, accessible only on foot and unique in the region, is perfect for beautiful walks. For a dive into history, from the central square of Porto Recanati you can climb the tower of the medieval Swabian Castle built by Frederick II of Swabia “Stupor Mundi” to admire the beauty of the sea and the surrounding hills.

Numana (7,5 km): Reputed as the queen of the Conero, Numana enchants with the crystalline waters of its many renowned beaches such as Bassa, Marcelli, del Frate, and Spiaggiola, which can be reached on foot or by sea, along with those to be discovered through endless excursions in close contact with nature. Not to mention the town center, which houses the state Antiquarium, the museum that will reveal the origins of Numana from Prehistory to the Roman era.

Sirolo (8,5 km):  Sirolo is an ancient medieval village nestled in the greenery of the Conero Natural Park and overlooking some of the most beautiful beaches in the Marche, which have held the Blue Flag for years. The picturesque historic center culminates in a square that offers a breathtaking view of the sea and Monte Conero. During the summer, it is full of life with many shops, bars, and restaurants, while in the shoulder season it offers a vacation for relaxation. Its renowned beaches such as Le Due Sorelle, accessible only by sea, the tranquil San Michele, and the enchanting Sassi Neri are little pieces of paradise waiting to be discovered.

Portonovo (19 km):           Also called the Green Bay, far from traffic where the mountain plunges into crystal-clear waters, beaches surrounded by untouched nature and away from traffic to spend a relaxing day without forgetting the local gastronomy and catering.

In the surroundings of Miraconero: There is such a variety of wonderful places to visit that your vacation could never end. Enchanting villages, cities bursting with history and culture, lush nature to immerse yourself in for numerous excursions, religious tourism, but also lively locations that are always ideal for both young people and families. An area that allows you to spend different days all year round, not to mention the gastronomy and hospitality, along with countless events organized everywhere. Below is a brief summary of the locations that deserve your visit, but you can discover much more on your own because Conero is a daily discovery all year round.

Loreto (4,9 km):
The village of Loreto houses one of the most frequented and sacred places of devotion in the Catholic world thanks to the presence of the Basilica of the Holy House, which contains the house where Mary received the announcement. The square of the Madonna, dominated by the white facade of the basilica, is the historical heart where the main buildings of the town are located, such as the Apostolic Palace that hosts the Pinacoteca museum, the Provincial Palace, and the Town Hall with its slightly leaning Civic Tower. Another architectural structure that contributes to enriching the already varied historical heritage of Loreto is the so-called “Aqueduct of the Arches” commissioned by Pope Paul V. The urban core of Loreto is enclosed within a city wall. On the south side is the Roman Gate, decorated with two statues of prophets. From the Roman Gate, one enters the 18th-century Piazza Leopardi where one can admire the Portico of the Barricades built in the second half of the 17th century.

On the northern side of the square, however, we find the so-called Porta Marina. Finally, among the architectures of Loreto, we point out the Sangallo Bastion whose interior is used as a multifunctional theater hall.

Recanati (12,5 km): Recanati, surrounded by hills, where one can admire unique glimpses and views of the sea and mountains, is naturally known for being the birthplace of the poet Giacomo Leopardi, whose house has become a museum that is definitely worth a visit to discover his library, gardens, and rooms. We suggest booking the visit directly at the website giacomoleopardi.it. But the city offers much more, starting from Piazza Leopardi, the heart of the city, where the medieval Torre del Borgo towers, housing the MUREC (Museum of Recanati) that narrates the history of the city. The top of the Tower provides a wonderful panoramic terrace, but if you happen to visit during closing hours, the courtyard of the nearby high school also offers a charming view. The square described in the Saturday of the village overlooks both the Leopardi house and Silvia’s house. Of course, you cannot miss the hill of infinity, that is, Mount Tabor, now a public park overlooking the Sibillini mountains.

Castelfidardo (10 km):      On the hills of Conero lies this town famous worldwide for being the birthplace of the celebrated accordion, which is specifically honored in Castelfidardo with a dedicated museum inside the Town Hall, where you can admire about 350 specimens. But the town is rich in history; it was here that the Battle of Castelfidardo took place, a fundamental milestone in the Italian Risorgimento, where the Piedmontese army fought against the Papal forces. In memory of this event, there is a monument and a shrine within an extensive park, where the remains of both sides rest.

And still in Piazza della Repubblica, you can discover the largest accordion in the world. But other buildings and churches deserve to be visited in this charming town.

Osimo (19 km): One of the oldest cities in the Marche region, linked to Roman civilization where you can find statues and artifacts starting from the Town Hall with its majestic 18th-century facade. Also in the crypt of the Cathedral. The Roman walls and the Cathedral of San Leopardo, which features Gothic-Roman styles, are worth a visit. The crypt houses sarcophagi. Don’t miss the Baptistery, a true custodian of historical artifacts. But Osimo offers the tourist much more to discover.

Camerano the underground city (14,5 km)
Camerano is a small town in the province of Ancona that lies at the foot of Mount Conero. This city hides a true underground gem in its subsoil, unfortunately unknown to many. It is an underground complex made up of many more or less extensive environments: caves, niches, tunnels, passages, and long corridors constructed and expanded by humans over many centuries directly beneath the historic center of the city. The caves of Camerano are of artificial origin, excavated by humans and therefore differ from natural caves. There is no certain information about the origin of these caves. Today it is possible to walk for more than an hour among these underground corridors, the walls are decorated with engravings and bas-reliefs. The underground city of Camerano develops over four levels connected by staircases, with a drop of sixty meters between the first and last floor. The deepest section of the caves is known as the Manciforte Cave because it was used by the noble family of marquises for several centuries; this space is characterized by the presence of highly calcareous water coming from Mount Conero, which continuously drips from the ceiling forming stalactites and stalagmites.

 Potenza Picena (16 km.)
This little-known town rises on a hill at 237 meters above sea level, a city of art and sea characterized by its landscapes. In ancient times, it was called Monte Santo due to its 27 churches within the characteristic historic center. Some of these are rich in frescoes; moreover, from one of its terraces named “Il Pincio,” one can enjoy a unique panorama of the entire Conero territory.

Offagna (21,6 km.)      A medieval village that holds many surprises for tourists who visit it, starting from the medieval fortress in the heart of the village, where history can be touched with one’s hands. The tower is open for visits up to the observation point from where a wide panorama can be enjoyed. At the entrance of the fortress, you will find the ticket office for visiting two other museums: the Natural Sciences Museum and the Historical Museum of the Liberation of Ancona. Offagna is part of the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy and proudly flies the prestigious orange flag of the Italian Touring Club.

Ancona (26 km.) The capital of the Marche region, often passed through distractedly by those boarding ferries, actually has a lot to offer: jewels of art and architecture, some exceptional churches, landscapes, and green spaces. Ancona also has a particularity: it is the only Italian city from which you can admire both the sunrise and the sunset over the sea. The privileged spot for this observation is the Cathedral of San Ciriaco, a splendid Romanesque-Byzantine cathedral overlooking the sea. From this, which is the highest point of the city, descending towards the port you will encounter Piazza del Plebiscito, the Passetto park, the Church of Santa Maria della Piazza, leading to the Arch of Trajan and the Mole Vanvitelliana. If you also love underground paths, this more hidden part of the city has been rediscovered in recent years.

Falconara Zoo Park (31,5 km.)       It is a modern zoo founded in 1968, covering about 60,000 square meters on a beautiful hill overlooking the sea. It houses around 200 specimens belonging to various species among mammals, birds, and reptiles. The Park participates in European Programs for endangered species, collaborating on research projects with various universities. We recommend visiting the Park’s website for opening days and hours.

Jesi (43 km.)A city rich in history, art, and culture located amidst the hills, halfway between the sea and the mountains. Its origins are ancient: as a Roman colony, it witnessed the birth of Frederick II of Swabia in 1194 and the composer Giovanni Pergolesi in 1710. Surrounded by one of the best-preserved walls, it holds the title of “Exemplary City” by UNESCO for its ability to preserve a highly evocative architectural, artistic, and cultural heritage that spans centuries. The entire historic center is made up of churches, palaces, and squares, with alleys and cobbled streets. Walking through its alleys feels like traveling back in time. There are at least seven original gates. The squares, historic palaces, and its beautiful theater certainly deserve a full day.

Corinaldo (73 km.)             Another village in the Marche region rightfully included among the most beautiful in Italy. Describing this town, rich in views, staircases, squares, and historical buildings, is not easy as Corinaldo is mainly the history that can be felt while walking freely through the village, making the visit an unforgettable memory. We invite you to visit the official website because many events take place almost throughout the year in this unique village.

Grotte di Frasassi (80 km) The Frasassi cave complex is one of the most grandiose and fascinating underground paths in the world. A suggestive journey through a surreal landscape at the dawn of nature. A complete underground ecosystem, in which it is still possible to observe the formation of stalactites and stalagmites, the drops that carve and construct their wonderful architectures where life has continued undisturbed for thousands of years. The equipped path is 1.5 km long, simple and suitable for everyone, lasting about one and a half hours. For information and tickets, we suggest visiting the Grotte website.

Fermo (35 km.)

Fermo

Perched on the Sabulo hill, at 320 meters above sea level and 6 km from the sea, Fermo was one of the most important Roman colonies since 264 BC, known as Firmum Picenum. Its history is set in a cultural context that spans from the Villanovan populations to the Picenes, as evidenced by some archaeological finds that attest to their presence in the area around the 9th-8th century BC.

What to see in Fermo

What to see in Fermo

The vocation of the city of Fermo, due to its history as a center of studies and its tradition of a cultural exchange hub in the Adriatic, has always been directed towards hospitality and welcome. The resources that the city has to continue responding to this trend are numerous and have been consolidated and refined over time. First and foremost, culture.

The city retains an intact Renaissance urban layout that starts from the main Piazza del Popolo – one of the most beautiful in the Marche region – and can be enjoyed through a series of itineraries dotted with churches, including the Cathedral with its stunning Gothic facade, noble palaces, courtyards, and artistic portals.

This region of Marche hosts a Civic Picture Gallery rich in late Gothic panels, famous for the renowned “Adoration of the Shepherds” by P.P. Rubens, the Civic Library “Romolo Spezioli”, one of the most notable in Italy for its ancient book heritage, whose heart – the seventeenth-century Hall of the World Map – is a source of pride for the city.

The city safeguards an extensive underground water system, which includes the Roman Cisterns from the Augustan era, the largest built by the Romans in terms of square meters, and whose visit is essential for anyone arriving in the City, even for just a few hours.

An excellent venue deserves, in the cultural offering of Fermo, the 18th-century Teatro dell’Aquila, one of the most beautiful and largest in the Marche: a prestigious environment, enriched by the historical backdrops of Alessandro Sanquirico and the central fresco by Luigi Cochetti. The structure, in addition to being one of the most appreciated cultural assets of the City, hosts important seasons of lyrical, symphonic, and prose performances according to a centuries-old tradition that has seen its stage graced by the greatest names in the international scene.

Another point of interest for which Fermo is famous is the nineteenth-century Villa Vitali, a prestigious building designed by Architect Gaetano Manfredi, which is now home to the renovated Open-Air Theatre, hosting a significant part of the summer theatrical season.

The Roman Cisterns

Among the oldest and largest in the world, the Roman cisterns of Fermo were built between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD. The 30 chambers that make them up, all of the same size and barrel-vaulted, extend over an area of 2,200 square meters. Ancient cisterns for collecting water to serve the city, they were abandoned and forgotten until their partial reuse from the late 1800s, and for about a century, as a municipal aqueduct.
